A Bible app that works without Wi-Fi
Most AI Bible tools are a website in a wrapper — lose the connection and you get a spinner. BibleChatMac keeps the model on your Mac, so asking questions, finding verses, and journaling all work with the network off.
Truly offline, not "offline-ish"
The distinction people care about is where the thinking happens. BibleChatMac runs its language model locally with Apple MLX on Apple Silicon, and the scripture text is a database bundled inside the app. Nothing is fetched per question. On a plane at 35,000 feet, in a cabin with one bar, on a retreat with the Wi-Fi deliberately off, or on a locked-down machine, the app behaves exactly as it does at home — same speed, same verses, same journal.
The one time you do need a connection
Honesty about the exception: the AI model is downloaded once, on first launch, and that download needs internet and takes a few minutes depending on your connection. Do it before you travel, not in the airport lounge. There is also an optional one-time licence check when you purchase. After that, you can stay offline indefinitely — no periodic re-validation, no phoning home, no feature that quietly stops working when you are out of range.
Everything still works offline
Offline is not a degraded mode here. Conversation, verse lookup with verbatim KJV text and references, the prayer and gratitude journal, read-aloud, the six accent themes, and Siri shortcuts all run without a network. All seven languages — English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, German, and Turkish — are on-device too, so a flight abroad does not change what you can ask or how it answers.
Offline is also private
The same architecture that makes it work on a plane is what keeps it private. If a question is never sent, there is no server log, no account attached to it, and nothing to breach. BibleChatMac has no account, no analytics, and no tracking, and your conversations and journal are stored only on your Mac. You need macOS 14 or later on Apple Silicon; there is a free trial, then a one-time $29.99 purchase with lifetime updates.
